I have very, very much enjoyed reading his work for quite some time.
When I was quite young my father received the New Yorker as a gift subscription, I can remember him not liking it.
I wish I could magically stumble across all of those issues. I have glimpses of articles I was too young to understand still in my head, no doubt Mcphee among them.
His recent (oops...that would be February of last year, my bathroom is a land that time repudiated more than forgot) "Fact-checkers..." New Yorker article was once again fascinating and a fantastic resource to go do further learning.

Haunted Dolls
Yesterday I had a lovely time spying on Bald Eagles and stepping out for some of the best BBQ north of the mason-dixon.
That normally would not be saying all that much (Update: Just to be clear, it is not saying much because Northern BBQ is a joke. The best food I ever tasted was in Texas, I miss it.) but this was some fantastic food, the eagle's were not in the least gamey, nice terroir though.
More on that in a subsequent post.
The subject of ghosts of visitation came up and, while I have a personal story this post is to a very chilling episode from Florida.
A woman has two haunted doll's for sale, and the saga is gripping.
That poor soul, read the whole thing!!!

Clarence Thomas

I like Clarence Thomas.
It is a remarkably consistent theme that those who have been most excoriated in the media, when they get an opportunity, show up as remarkably likable and down to earth.
You can almost calibrate the goodness of a person by assuming an inverse proportion between it and the venom of the press.
Let me state that insinuation plainly: people who pursue journalism tend to be lying arrogant garbage who feel we are all their febrile minded children, and, for them, the truth is an item to be molded for the greatest control of their notion of greater good.
Althouse has a post on the video from which I transcribed the material above. I am enjoying the video thoroughly and Mrs. Meade's comments are must reading as always, and by that I mean her comments and those in her comments community.
I have listened as Dennis Miller has stated that for governance you want the man of common sense and solid backbone.
Avoiding drama is, to me, the most basic of common sense.
I am looking forward to enjoying the entire video.
