Prowler

Danger Room has a post linking to an article on the secret patch(es) and mission of STS-38.

They seem to have launched a stealth satellite whose task it was to sneak up to other satellites to gather intelligence.

JB

Deepest sympathy goes out to Julie and her family right now as they go through a terrible loss.

"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than 10,000 tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love." ~ Washington Irving

Maritime Monday is up. I had not heard of Fair Winds Wines.

Other carnivals here.

The largest wave ever link is also very interesting.

Lastly more on one of the island homes mentioned below.

Record Fish

Sadly he seems to steal the lil girl's thunder:

"ELKIN, N.C. - David Hayes' granddaughter just asked him to hold her Barbie rod and reel while she went to the bathroom. He did. And seconds later he landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce.

Alyssa's father had bought the pink Barbie fishing rod for Christmas and she had caught a few bluegill before her grandfather hauled in the catfish."

May be referring to this slogan seen on a pleasant model here:

That's from a while back, scroll down to see a more recent pic. Oh heck, I'll do it for ya':

Disney

New projects page?

You can see the shorts that have been coming back into the theaters. I was curious when I saw the "Home Theater" short and pleased to see it. Nothing is worse than paying for gum crusted seat time and being subject to actual commercials. I used to go see movies all of the time. I enjoyed it. I stopped because they stopped being new and interesting and the commercials are insulting. The expense exceeded justification.

Which celebrity's voice would it be?

I'm going with Stephen King's voice as he impersonates Stanley Kubrick, and it scares me.

Totten at City Journal

City Journal is great as is Totten. I will certainly give this item on the Georgia matter a read (done) and some thought.

Children's Day in Paraguay

Interesting read over at View From The Porch and interesting comments as well...

I somehow missed it and will have to wait a year to celebrate.

Here she mentions an anecdote involving Richard Russo.

Pandora Plug Pull?

Damnit! Leave my music alone...I have made purchases off of Itunes that I wouldn't have known to look for without some manner of radio-like device. The lawyers are flaying the goose. Like this here. The end is a little less than compelling but I think the essence of the tale is "Let people listen to music before they buy it. At least a little. Or you are a beast damn you. Also don't be mean to ugly people right off the bat just because and then make up rules to follow suit. And don't reach out to every train for whatever reason, you could be stuck for quite a while. Also try not to make sense of this post, for it will vex you!"

More On the Mass Matter

I posted recently on the matter of Massachusetts. Here is an Instapundit post.

I have spoken quite often on the matter of what I believe is the "liberal" mentality viz a viz lawmaking and being in the legislature.

The point is to inure people to the idea of laws themselves by relentlessly invoking the concept of "reasonable application." Sure this particular law is stringent but it will only be applied in rare instances meriting severity etc...etc... Think "hate crimes" laws...

The actual home run for them is having everyone breaking these fatuous laws at all times, just by living an innocuous humdrum life. At that time (virtually now) they can then arbitrate whose lives to ruin by applying law and when.

Nooses are now illegal in CT.

I'm sure the application will be judicious and restrained, and is absolutely a matter pressing enough to pull politicians from the matter of robbing us less fervently.

I suppose the legislators at this point have nothing to fear because they are still tar free. In the real America they would terrified of straying from jack-boot protection by now...

Lime Rock

I had a great weekend with some friends I have not seen so much lately. I notice that others also had a great weekend and I only wish that I could have been in two places at once as I love Lime Rock!

Mike has some excellent posts on his time grazing the speedy tarmac. Click over and scroll down to see it all. If some time has elapsed and you are coming upon this post look on his blog around the August 17, 2008 zone to see what I reference here.

Nice stuff!

Photos

I have some pics to get to a couple of folks but emailing them becomes a pain with compression etc. Paddy has mentioned Kodak sharing, maybe that's what I will do with them, shouldn't be that bad but I will definitely need a reliable connection for that. With this less than reliable connection here is a couple of bee flower photos.

Or not the photo tab is giving me nothing right now...

Conservative

I noticed this article at No Pasaran.

I love to read Thomas Sowell, he needs his own well organized and updated website.

Regarding the Barry Hu fella, if I can go on for ten minutes with ease on why I completely disagree with his BS without ever mentioning race, why can't any of his supporters ever go more than a few moments trying to persuade me without mentioning the same? Substance issues? Subterfuge? Intentional and pathetic cultural bludgeon?

We all know.

That's all.

Most Meanspirited, and Funny, Joke...

Years ago someone from Uruguay told me a joke about Argentinians. "Why," he asked, "do they drill holes in the caskets of Argentinians?"

Mmm? Don't know.

"So the worms can crawl out and puke."

Lovely! I sure enjoy a good joke!

I have just noticed another arcane joke laced with some level of vitriol. I will copy, paste and link, I really know nothing of this site, so click over at your own wanderings risk, etc., etc.:

"I dated a woman from Mongolia briefly, she told a joke that went like this: A ChiCom when asked what his dying wish would be, was for Russia to attack China twice. When asked why this was, the ChiCom said yes it would be bad for China, but the Russians would go through Mongolia four times... Those Chinee sure hate the Mongols. - Vice Sgt Boone"
